What is Hizanat under Pakistani law?

Hizanat is the Islamic law concept of child custody. Under the Guardians and Wards Act 1890 and Hanafi jurisprudence, the mother has the primary right of custody for sons until age 7 and daughters until puberty. After these ages, custody may transfer to the father. However, the paramount consideration is always the welfare of the child — courts can override these default rules if the child's best interests require it.
