What is an Arbitration Council in Pakistan?

An Arbitration Council is formed under the MFLO 1961 when a talaq notice or second marriage application is filed. Chaired by the Union Council Chairman, it includes representatives from both parties. Its role is mandatory mediation during the 90-day reconciliation period after talaq. The Council attempts to resolve the dispute but cannot prevent the divorce from proceeding if the waiting period expires.
